ACHIEVE
MY COMMITMENT
@ Harry KH | 11th Hour Racing | The Ocean Race
I will educate, advocate, and drive collective action, to raise the issue of inequalities in sailing, sport, and society and seek legislative and regulatory changes that result in equal pay and a just climate action.
I will share how we created our high performing exemplar team so that more people win well.
@ Harry KH | 11th Hour Racing | The Ocean Race
Have you had the same opportunities to achieve your dreams as the person next to you?
For many, barriers like gender, culture, or background create significant challenges. Inequities in sailing, sports, and society at large highlight how uneven the playing field can be.
That’s why I’m committed to raising awareness and driving action to address these disparities, advocating for equal pay and a just transition for the climate. By sharing the journey of building a high-performing team, I aim to inspire others to reach new heights. But true success isn’t just personal—it's about recognizing your own privilege and potential, seeking growth opportunities, and helping others along the way.
By lifting each other up, we can amplify our collective potential, achieve greatness, and create lasting positive change.
“Be the person who empowers yourself and others to reach new heights of success.”
“Extend a helping hand to those around you. Offer encouragement, share knowledge, and provide assistance wherever possible.”
“Start by recognizing your own privilege and potential and take proactive steps towards your goals. Seek out opportunities for growth, and don't hesitate to ask for support when needed.”
Let's foster a community of mutual empowerment
Why does this matter to me?
I never felt that way with 11th Hour Racing Team. The fact that I’m maturing probably comes into it as well - I am older, with more experience, and I believe in myself more than I did 15 years ago. But at the same time I knew that I wouldn’t get judged in this team for who I am and I think that brought the very best out of me, out of everybody. In every single position in the team, everyone was open and welcoming, and had the ability to ask the questions, to challenge thinking, to come up with different ideas or processes and to bring their own perspective on things. That created a really successful team which ultimately won The Ocean Race. And, most importantly, we did it all together.
My most recent experience of when belonging brings achievement was In the last Ocean Race with 11th Hour Racing Team. It was a really positive environment to be part of and I felt I was not having to hide any part of me. I could just be myself, with my wife and daughter around me, and be me - Frankie. I never felt I couldn’t speak up, I shouldn’t ask questions or speak out.
Sometimes you have that feeling of wanting to ask something, but worried it might be a dumb question, but you really want to know the answer! In an environment where you don’t feel super safe, where you don’t feel like you belong, it might be really hard to speak up and ask things you really need to know.
